    Photo: Ali ElShinawyWhen Ali ElShinawy was reviewing universities online, SU’s College of Engineering and Computer Science strong programs stood out. After consulting his high school counselor, his interest in SU was sparked. It was the first step on the path to a great college experience.

    Ali co-founded of the Arab Student Association and currently serves as the public relations representative of the group. He also plays indoor intramural soccer three times a week.

    An avid sports fan, Ali has enjoyed cheering on Orange basketball in the Carrier Dome. “I will never forget the amount of passion the court was filled with when we played Duke,” he says. “You could barely hear yourself speak, everybody was cheering, it felt amazing. It’s a lifetime experience. Our team is considered a huge symbol and brings pride for the University; it really brings everyone together.”

    After graduation, Ali hopes to start a career by at a multi-national company in the US. His advice to incoming students: join a student group or student organization in  your first year. “At the beginning of your college experience, being part of a group allows you to meet people, gives you a sense of identity, and doubles the fun,” Ali says. “Joining a student group has helped me a lot through out my time at SU.”
